Associate Dean of SILC was invited to CACIE 2019

The 20thChina Annual conference for International Education & Expo (CACIE) was hold in Beijing from October 17th to 20th. CACIE 2019 focuses on “Education 2035: A Dialogue with the Future of the World” and consists of 3 parts: China International Forum on Education, Education B2B and China Education Expo. Officials from the Ministry of Education of PRC, representatives from high level colleges and education research institutes at home and abroad are invited


Hilary Hu, the associate dean of SILC was invited to host and give a speech in the symposium on Chinese-Australian Transnational Education. The theme of this session is “Chinese-Australian Transnational Education: Leading to the Next 25 Years”. In her opening speech, Hilary said the Chinese-Australian transnational education (TNE) has a history that spans a quarter of a century since the first joint institute in higher education was established in 1994. The past 25 years have witnessed a strong growth in Chinese-Australian TNE delivery in China, which contributes greatly to the capacity building and internationalization of Chinese higher education. Then she briefly introduced the Sino-Australian Cooperative Education Union and its first council meeting in May 2019 in Shanghai.


In her speech entitled “New Professional Talent Development Model in Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education in Response to the ‘Double First-Class’ Initiative – A Case Study of SILC Business School, Shanghai University”, Hilary shared her view on the challenges and opportunities brought by TNE. She then introduced the concept of “four beams and eight pillars”, which are set up to support the SILC talent cultivation. The four beams are Internationalization, ICT-Era, I-shared Value, and Industry Engagement, which provide principle guidance, while the “eight pillars” describe the approach to realize the featured education from eight perspectives.She also took the Management Department as an example, demonstrating a series of measures taken by SILC to deepen its comprehensive reform of discipline, and its fruitful achievements in teaching quality and talent cultivation. Her speech was echoed by many participants and stimulated their thinking aboutsustainable development of high-level Sino-Australian TNE.
