From Oct. 20th to 21st, the International Symposium on Cross-border Education of the 17th China Annual Conference for International Education (CACIE) is held in Beijing. Prof. Lyu Kangjuan, Deputy Dean of SILC attends the symposium and makes a keynote speech.
The theme of the symposium is Integration & Innovation: Qualitative and sustainable Development of Cross-border Education, which emphasizes that people who work in cross-border education need to learn from the Bologna Process and ERASMUS Program, and promote the continuous improvement and development of the cross-border education. What they plan to do are: first, good examples of Chinese-Foreign schools should play an exemplary role; second, the Regulations on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools should be innovated and amended to adjust to the actual demands; and third, the relevant supervision should be strengthened and information publicity of program exit and information should be promoted. In the first day of the symposium, CACIE issues the authority files such as 100 Q&A of Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools, Briefing on 2016 Student Enrollment of Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Schools, Annual Report on Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Schools, Annual Report on Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Programs, Research Report on Current Situation of Chinese-British Cooperation in Education, and Quality Accreditation Research Report on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Vocational Education etc.
On Oct. 21st, Prof. Lyu Kangjuan attends the forum themed on Establishing a Win-win Cooperative Partnership and Management Mechanism and makes a keynote speech. She reviews the history of SILC Business School and its development process in the past 22 years, analyzes the input and output of running a Chinese-Foreign cooperative school, and focuses on the core competences of such a school. Her conclusion is that, to cultivate the ability of running a school determines the development of the school, and to improve the management mechanism is the basis of running a school. She finishes her speech by quoting Peter Drucker’s saying: One cannot manage change. One can only be ahead of it.
The audience is attracted by Prof. Lyu’s speech and asks many questions in the Q&A part. There are two major questions: the first is how SILC reforms the recruitment process and introduces high-quality international talent; and the second is how SILC can continuously innovate in management based on the Chinese- Foreign cooperation. Concerned with the first question, Prof. Lyu said that SILC promotes a joint-employment system of teachers with UTS, and transfers from the traditional talent recruitment process into a new one, which is to take advantage of international academic conferences as platforms for recruiting talent with international background. As for the second question, Prof. Lyu said, the school running process is full of compromises and negotiations and no obstacles cannot be overcome as long as that both sides believe that they are doing so for the sake of the school. Prof. Lyu’s answers have been highly praised by the audience.
