SILC’s world-class degree program construction and 2019 degree talents nurturing plan

In the morning of June 16, the meeting on SILC’s world-class degree program construction and 2019 degree talents nurturing plan was held in Room 101, Wenbo Building, which washostedby Hu Xiaohan, the Vice Dean of Teaching, SILC. Li Shuang, the Party Secretary, Wei Jingfen, the Vice Party Secretary, Directors and deputy Directors of Departments, teachers, supervisors of Student’s Affairs Division, staff of Teaching Management Department attended the meeting. Hu Xiaohan introduced the state’s requirements of constructing “world-class discipline, world-class major, world-class base” for Higher Education in China. Information of the world-class majors and “Golden Quality Courses” construction on national and provincial levels, the application and selection of world-class majors of Shanghai University were also shared in the meeting.


Nie Jing, Director of the Business Administration Department, gave a briefing about the department’s application for the world-class degree program construction. Kuang Qun, Deputy Director of the English Department introduced the curriculum and features of the English program for degree students, the strategies to develop students’ English proficiency, and schemes for future English courses. Hu Min, Director of the Information Management Department,talked about the current computer courses and their quality feedback, as well as the adjustment of teaching plans for commencing students in 2019. Gan Lining, Director of the Accounting Department, introduced the current accounting courses and the teaching innovation of the department, followed by an analysis of students’ learning outcomes and prospective courses for future students. Jia Lijun, Director of the Economics and Finance Department reported about the design of the International Economics & Trade Program and the Finance Program, and possible changes in teaching for the upcoming academic year.


Hu Xiaohan summarized the meeting and raised the issues to discuss.Firstly, the school needs to consider the feasibility of reducing total credits, which involves the reduction of credits on graduates’ dissertations from all majors and the increase of the credits on practical training, as well as improving the connotative construction of the curriculum. The second issue is about how to  realize the curriculumintegration across differentschools and majors to further enhance the implementation of the “honorary undergraduate program”.Teachers attending the meeting had a great discussion on the two issues. Finally, Li Shuang made a concluding speech on the meeting and highly praised the teachers' contributions to teaching reforms. He hoped that all teachers would explore and practice more in their future teaching.
