2019 SILC Graduation Ceremony was held in the auditorium of Jiading Campus in the morning of June 27. Prof. Liu Changsheng, President of Shanghai University; Prof. Gong Siyi, Deputy Party Secretary, CPC and Vice President of Shanghai University; Dr. Ron Sandland, AM, Honorary President of UTS; Prof. Andrew Parfitt, Provost and Senior Vice-President of UTS; Mr. Iain Watt, Vice President of UTS; teachers and guests from home and abroad attended the Graduation Ceremony. The video of the late President Qian Weichang’s Graduation Speech deeply moved the graduates with the spirit of “be the first to become concerned with the world's troubles and last to rejoice in its happiness”.
The ceremony began with a speech delivered by Dr. Ron Sandland AM, HonoraryPresident of UTS, who expressed his heartfelt congratulations to all graduates. The second speech was given by Prof. Lyu Kangjuan, Dean of SILC. She encouraged the young graduates to reform themselves, embrace changes, adapt to the society, create values and improve themselves. After the speeches, the Deputy Dean of SILC, Prof. Hu Xiaohan announced the name list of graduates, and the degrees were awarded to these fresh graduates by Prof. Gong Siyi (Deputy Party Secretary, CPC and Vice President of SHU), and Prof. Andrew Parfitt (Provost and Senior Vice-President of UTS). In the second part, the Deputy Dean of SILC, Prof. Fang Hui announced the name list of graduates, and the degrees were awarded to students by Prof. Li Shuang, Party Secretary, CPC of SILC，and Mr. Alex Murphy, Managing Director of UTS Insearch.
Wang Shuo, an outstanding student of 2019, spoke on behalf of all the graduates who received the master degree in Management Science and Engineering. Wei Jingfen, Deputy Party Secretary of SILC, presented certificates to outstanding graduates of Shanghai this year and outstanding graduates of Shanghai University. Lyu Kangjuan,Deputy Party Secretaryand Dean of SILC, and Lei Ling, the SILC partner and Director of Marketing and Product Operations of Careerfrog, awarded different scholarships to students who will study abroad and who will start their careers respectively.
The unanimoussinging of theschool song of Shanghai University in the audience witnessed a successful conclusion of the 2019 graduation ceremony of SILC. The graduates have opened a new chapter in their lives.
