In the past summer holiday, SILCheld three international summer schools, cooperating with University of Technology in Sydney,North Carolina State University in US and University of Pittsburgh, Bradford in US respectively. SILC has always been engaged in cultivating international business talents. One of the most important ways is to provide opportunities for students to study abroad. In 2015, 68 students, 3 business teachers and 1 administration staff attended the international summer schools.
The three summer schools had different characteristics, which left students memorable experience abroad. As thefounding partner of SILC, UTS has already been known well by SILC students and has become the first choice of most students. The curriculums are mainly around ‘Development Economics’, along with courses like ‘Australian Culture’, ‘Australian Market’, which offer students an all-round business journey. Universities in U.S. also gained popularity in recent years. The summer school in North Carolina State University focused on ‘Corporate Finance and Investment’. While SILC lecturer provided clear explanation about basic principles, professors from NC state delivered lectures about cutting-edgetrend. Corporate visits also added to the understanding of‘Corporate Finance and Investment’, especially in American context. In University of Pittsburgh, the summer school provided a lot for the students interested in information management subjects. Through compact class arrangement, advanced laboratories, business strategy competition and many other forms, students were able to grasp the basic knowledge of 3D printing, large-data analysis and data modeling. During extracurricular time, all the three summer schoolsorganized a diversity of cultural activities, such as social event with local studentsand visit to prestigious universities.
Through the summer schools, students not only enhance their professional knowledge, but also broaden their horizons and have a new understanding of study and life, which is beneficial to their study and career development in the future. Through the communication with local professors, teachers have a better knowledge about the cutting-edge research trend and achievement in the world, making further research cooperation possible. The administration staff can also learn about the practices in the universities abroad, which will help improve the service in the future.
SILC is going to hold summer schools with more internationally well-known universities, getting more students, teachers and administration staff to benefit from the schools.
