1 A field study led by Minister of MOE

Accompanied by leaders from MOE, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and Shanghai University, Mr. Tian Xuejun, the Minister of MOE visited SILC and attended ideology construction symposium for Chinese-foreign cooperative education of universities in Shanghai on May 22. SILC was the only place Mr. Tian Xuejun visited in Shanghai, which indicates the demonstrative role SILC plays in ideology construction as a leading Chinese-foreign cooperative school.

2  Breakthrough in party construction

SILC held the Symposium of Party Construction in Chinese-foreign cooperative schools on May 29. More than 130 representatives from 75 Chinese-foreign cooperative schools attended the symposium. This is the first party construction symposium in China. Dr. Li Shuang addressed the symposium.

3  Gratifying research achievements

The research team on data-driven urban management and service of SILC held an international conference on Smart City Management and Service on July 12. The conference received over 200 international papers. More than 350 scholars and experts from all over China and other countries including Australia, U.S.,and Germany attended the conference. Mr. Liu Qianwei from Shanghai Residence and Rural and Urban Development, Mr. Zhou Wenbo from Shanghai Tunnel Engineering, and guests from Alibaba Research Institute made keynote speeches. Prof. Lyu Kangjuan made a keynote speech on The Challenges IT Technology Brought to Economics and Management Discipline. In 2018, SILC received 7.7 million Yuan research funding. A special report written by SILC faculty was commented by national leader. A special report written by SILC faculty was adopted by Propaganda Department of the CPC. 8 ministerial- and national-level research projects were approved. SILC faculty published 38 SSCI/SCI papers and 10 CSSCI papers. In addition, SILC faculty won two first prizes and four second prizes in Shanghai University high-level paper award.

4  Active academic exchange and communication

  • SILC held Chinese-Australian Cooperative Education Symposium on April 2. Professor Zong Wa, Deputy Secretary of China Education Association for International Exchange, and Prof. Gong Siyi, Vice President of Shanghai University addressed the symposium. Scholars and experts from over 60 Chinese-Australian cooperative schools and programs attended. A/Prof. Hu Xiaohan presented a report on the status of Chinese-Australian cooperative education.

  • SILC will be the host of 2019 Management Science Annual Conference. The conference is organized by China Society of Optimal Selection Method and Economic Mathematics initiated by Prof. Hua Luogeng, a famous mathematician in China. The annual conference has been held for 20 consecutive years. It will further enhance SILC research quality and lay solid foundation for the impact of Shanghai University’s first-class business discipline.

5  High-level international cooperation

  • 359 international students studied at SILC and 295 Chinese students studied at overseas universities. SILC held the Baltic-Sea Economic and Management Forum. SILC signed cooperation agreements with 9 world-class overseas universities including University of Navarra and Toulouse Business School.

6  Continued high-quality student development

  • SILC students won 47 prizes in domestic and international competitions including the first prize in 2018 Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the first prize in 2018 China Robot Competition, and the first prize in the 3rd National College Student Academic English Vocabulary Contest.

  • The graduates of 2018 have 100% employment rate and 90.87% signing rate of employment contracts. The average employment quality is 90.48, a record high in history. SILC has won the Shanghai University Graduate Employment Advanced Unit Award for three consecutive years. The internship base jointly developed by SILC and Shanghai International Automobile City was approved as a Shanghai Municipal student career development base.

7  Green-effect smart classroom press conference

  • SILC held a Green-effect Smart Classroom press conference on December 14. SILC is the first school in China that has a green-effect smart classroom. Donated by Mr. Cheng Siqi, an alumnus of SILC, the classroom is data-driven platform for teaching and learning. A dozen of organizations and companies including SILC and Hipaint formed an alliance at the press conference. Shanghai Education Television made a special report about the press conference on December 25.

8  Great achievements of teaching

  • SILC won a first prize and a second prize of Shanghai Municipal Teaching Award on Internationalized Talent Cultivation and Development and Achievement of Experiential Teaching & Learning, respectively. In addition, SILC won a first prize and a second prize in Chinese-foreign Cooperative Schools Innovative Teaching Award on Simulated Practical Teaching in Accounting and Practice and Research of Embedded Entrepreneurial Education, respectively.

9  Women’s Committee wins municipal awards

  • The Department of Management was awarded 2017-2018 Shanghai Municipal Leading Women Unit. The Maternity Room won the title of 2017-2018 Shanghai Municipal Education Sector Excellent Maternity Room. SILC was the only school of Shanghai University that won the two prizes.

10 Renovation of Wenbo Building receives positive feedback

  • Wenbo Building was renovated and came into service in Autumn semester. The faculty and students provided many suggestions to the renovation plan before it was finalized by the joint management committee. The renovated building has not only improved teaching and learning facility but also offered a smart classroom that is now a first-class benchmark in China. The smart classroom receives favourable comments from faculty and students. It has also attracts many visitors, playing a perfect publicity role for SILC.
